Romania leads after error-filled qualification for Russians
Going For Gold - 9 days ago
Following training many concluded the team gold at the European championships would be decided between Russian brilliance and Romanian consistency. In the qualification in Brussels it seems consistency won the day. Russia began with tentative perfomances on beam, and followed up with a disaster on floor, with their 3 competitors: Grishina, Mustafina and Sidorova all taking falls. They finished off stronger with the top 3 scores on bars after...

Euros preview: Floor
Stoi - 9 days ago
Leading contenders: Anastasia Grishina, Catalina Ponor, Diana Bulimar, Vanessa Ferrari Other EF prospects: Aliya Mustafina, Anastasia Sidorova, Diana Chelaru, Rebecca Tunney, Marine Brevet, Erika Fasana, Julie Croket, Maria Livchikova (we desperately hope) This is perhaps the most difficult to predict of the four finals, and the most open. There really isn’t a favourite. Europe has [...]

Quick hits: Senior women's team qualification at the European Championships
Gymnastics Examiner - 9 days ago
9:49 a.m.: With 10 minutes to go before the competition, there's a disheartening lack of, well, people in the arena. The stands are very empty, though there are some school groups trickling in and taking up...

Spanny's Big Fake Smile - 9 days ago
Friends, we are at the second to last episode ever.  EVER.   I'm just positive we'll see a ton of gymnastics, and things that totally pertain to the actual selection of an Olympic team.  You know it's going to be a good episode when we open with shots of Jan.  Not one, but TWO shots of Jan.  We see Jan, go inside the doctor's office to hear about how super unique and risky Lauren's totally not-unique heart condition...

Rewriting Russian Gymnastics - 9 days ago
There are some unexpected recurring themes in my gymnastics holidays: bad food, inappropriate men, funny friends and brilliant Russians.  As this is a diary of my Brussels experience as much as a story about the European Championships, I will provide you with an update of how Tracey and I are getting on here, as well as some links to interesting information about today's junior team competition, which the Russians won quite brilliantly....

Thirties Manifesto
Kyle Shewfelt - 10 days ago
On May 6th, I turned 30. In celebration, I ran 33km's. It was my longest run yet and it felt pretty awesome. I may or may not have been a bit hungover, but a friend who ran Ironman gave me some sound advice - she said that running a hungover long run gives you a taste of what the actual race will feel like. I liked that advice so I had a few beers with friends on Saturday afternoon/evening. It was brilliant, but I always find it remarkable...
